What parent coaching works on

  • Mornings, homework, screens, bedtime — the recurring flashpoints
  • Meltdowns: what to do before, during and after
  • An anxious child — backing off accommodation without abandoning them
  • School refusal and the morning battle to get out of the door
  • Teenagers pulling away, and conflict that has become the household norm
  • Sibling conflict that has become a household weather system
  • Two parents with different instincts undermining each other without meaning to, including after separation

You can start before your child is ready, or when you’re not sure what to do next.

Parent coaching works when your child refuses therapy, or when you are not sure they need therapy at all.

Because how you respond matters. Parent coaching can help you feel more confident in the moments that matter, and can lead to real change for your child.

How it works with Dr. Dana Rhule

Dr. Rhule is a child clinical psychologist with a CBT background and long experience with anxiety, selective mutism and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy. Coaching is practical: we look at what is actually happening at home, pick one or two situations to change first, and give you specific things to try before the next session.

Short and practical — often six to ten sessions, parents only. Many families do this instead of bringing the child into therapy, and it works. When a child does need direct treatment, she can see them too.

Questions

What people ask

Does my child need to come?

Usually not. The work is with you, and many families start here without bringing their child in.

How many sessions does parent coaching take?

Often six to ten. Some parents come back for a few sessions later when a new stage brings new flashpoints.

Can both parents attend if we are separated?

Yes, together or separately. Co-parenting work is a normal part of this.

What if my child refuses to see anyone?

That is one of the most common reasons parents start here. You can begin without them.

Can we do parent coaching online?

Yes, by secure video anywhere in New Jersey and New York. Many parents prefer it — no childcare to arrange.
